To ask a question is to
Imply you don’t know.
Agree your map of the world might be off.
Understand you may need to change your map.
One who is curious is bound to change,
making curiosity dangerous.
Dangerous to yourself and potentially others.
Pursuing certainty can exterminate curiosity.
Even a sliver of curiosity can “shatter and transform us,” as Nietzsche noted, threatening the stability of our worldview.
Your lack of certainty may disrupt the certainty of those around you.
When opening a can of worms is considered a negative thing to be avoided, one realizes we are conditioned to sidestep curiosity.
We are rewarded for having swift, confident answers, making curiosity and thinking beyond our first conditioned response a detour.
To contemplate is to be uncertain.
To consider other answers is to be indecisive.
To change your mind is to flip-flop.
Is this going to win you any points?
Is this going to catapult you to the top rung of the ladder you are climbing?
Probably not.
As a result, we are content with cheap, quick soundbites to questions humans have struggled for lifetimes, generations, millennia to answer.
Open to acknowledging your wrongs.
Open to backtracking.
Open to the unfamiliar (which includes the familiar).
Whether it leads to a positive or negative outcome,
one who is curious is bound to change.
It may seem harmonious.
It may seem disruptive.
It may be welcomed.
It may be resisted.
It may make you feel alive.
It may make you feel apathetic.
Regardless, one who is curious is bound to change.
If you are able to identify that: what do you do about these curiosities?
Author Roy T. Bennett once wrote, “If you’re curious, there is always something new to be discovered.”
The Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) is a six-phase framework to help you discover, explore, and pursue your curiosities.
Without a framework to help us learn, many of us are left to aimlessly wander, squandering what little time we have to grow in our knowledge (and appreciation) of this Life.
The PLP provides you clarity and precision to guide your steps, assisting you in your ongoing growth and development.
